Nightmare Before Christmas by Krystian Williams, 3rd Grade

Image result for monsters on christmas

It was the day before Christmas. There was a hidden dungeon on a secret island that had monsters and skeletons in jail cells. The monsters were mysteriously released into the wilderness. Their were people right near the door they escaped from. The monsters chased after the people. Twenty six people were caught, but twenty seven people survived. The monsters trapped the victims in the jail cells and boarded a boat to New York City. While everyone was sleeping the monsters sneaked into everyone's house and took the presents "Santa" gave them. When the people woke up it was 12 am, and the monsters disappeared. A nightmare before Christmas.

Baked Mac n' Cheese by Armani Medley

Baked Mac n' Cheese
Is Not Sweet
Baked Mac n' Cheese
Is Good to Eat
When it's Cheesy
It Makes me Queasy

I Don't Like it Plain
I Like it Baked
If I Sleep and I Smell it
I Immediately Wake

I Can't Wait for
Thanksgiving to Come
When I See All of the Food
I Will Become Numb

I Will Dig in
And Call Out "FEAST!"
But the One Thing I Don't Want to Eat
Is Grease

Poetry: Our Favorite Treats

Image result for candy

Elijah Stevens- "Favorite Treat"
I love Sourheads
They are sour
I eat them everyday
Because they're delicious
Kit-Kats are better
But not so much
Because the Kit-Kats...
Always melt!

Osagie E.- "Kit-Kat"
I like Kit-Kats
They are creamy and bold
I eat them when I'm hungry
Especially in my bed
I've always like Kit-Kats
I eat them till I'm tired
I love them so much
Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!
I love Crunch so much
They Crunch and Munch in my mouth
I eat them till I'm tired
I love Crunch so much

Jasmine Davis- "Cupcakes"
Cupcakes are the most yummy snacks
I love them, this is a fact
The decorative sprinkles
Go down in my throat
Mmm...Mmm... These cupcakes I love

The frosting pink, purple, or white
I clap and laugh, full of delight
Sugar Rush! I run around
Ooops! I tripped Ow... Ow... Ow...
Mmm...Mmm... These Cupcakes I love

I'm up to my last bite
And then I say, Good Night!
I lick the delicious frosting off the cupcake
I'm finished
Good Night!
Mmm...Mmm... These cupcakes I love

Rashad Townsley- "My Favorite Treat"
What are you favorite treats? I have plenty, but one stands out. The treat reminds me of the beauty of a rose. It surely tastes like a treat to me. The treat is so good, but sometimes I can't finish it. When I go trick or treating, I really hope I get this treat. I think Kit-Kats are the best. I love it so much.
Happy Halloween!

Why Afterschool is Important to Me

Why Afterschool is Important to Me
Lights On Afterschool Celebration Speeches October 28, 2016
Afterschool supports student’s daily learning and education. It’s a safe learning environment to complete homework. Afterschool helps students make friends and allows them to participate in creative activities. It also helps kids develop social skills. Afterschool is important because it provides extended learning. – Osagie Ekhator, 5th Grade
Afterschool is important because parents don’t always have time to take care of you at the end of the day. It gives you time to finish your homework. In afterschool you can make new friends and spend time with the friends you already have. There are many celebrations such as the Costume Party, Secret Santa, Valentine’s Day-Black History Celebration and more. They have several clubs that students can participate in every Friday. This is why afterschool is important to me. – Jaden Jernigan, 5th Grade
Afterschool is important for children whose guardians are busy working hard for them to have a happy life. They need a place that can offer them enrichment. Afterschool is your safe spot. It’s your 2nd home. The staff will always support you. They want what’s best for you. To conclude everyone should thank the staff. Look at the nearest staff member and repeat after me:
“You work hard for me to enjoy myself and for that I thank you.” – Aniya Campbell, 5th Grade
Afterschool is important because it provides a safe place to complete our homework. It offers physical activity so we can be healthy. I need afterschool because it helps me complete my homework when my mom and my dad are at work. I wouldn’t have anywhere to go if it wasn’t for afterschool. Lastly, we are able to partake in fun activities aside from homework. On Fridays we have clubs where we express ourselves, enjoy parties and holiday celebrations.

The Hindus Festival of Diwali By Terryll Jackson

The Hindus Festival of Diwali

Diwali is one of the biggest festival of Hindus, celebrated with great enthusiasm and happiness in India. The festival is celebrated for five continuous days, where the third days is celebrated as the main Diwali festival or 'Festival of lights'. What’s also interesting about this holiday is that the date varies since it’s holiday is marked on a religious calanders. This means that the holiday is celebrated on certain days based on their religion.

Different colorful varieties of fireworks are always associated with this festival. On this auspicious day, people light up diyas and candles all around their house. They perform Laxmi Puja in the evening and seek divine blessings of Goddess of Wealth. The festival of Diwali is never complete without exchange of gifts. People send for Diwali to their near and dear ones.

There are tons of beautiful Rangoli designs and patterns to inspire and create a magical Diwali. Indians love colors and its perfectly reflected in various ways. Rangoli is one such example that is a unique art work that is practiced by people all across India. Basically Rangoli is an art work that is done floors.

Presidential Debate 2016

The first Presidential debate was very intense. This is because of Donald Trump's lack of discipline and Hillary's honest comments about Mr. Trump's racist past. Hillary said that Donald Trump thinks that Global Warming is a "hoax" and that the Chinese were responsible. Also, Trump doesn't respect women. Donald kept interrupting Hillary since he knew those things were true. Donald Trump only talked about himself the entire time. That is why I would vote for Hillary Clinton for President.

I would vote for Hillary Clinton because she sounds smarter and wants Spanish people to live in America unlike Trump. I like Hillary Clinton because she is nice to people and she will make a great President. Another reason why I like her is because she's not racist like Donald Trump. These are the reasons I would vote for Hillary over Trump.
-Devon Guthrie

I would vote for Hillary Clinton. I say this because Hillary Clinton is a great candidate for president. Donald Trump is a bad person and he is racist. He wants to put a wall between Mexico and America. He believes anybody with color is a bad person. He also believes Muslim people will become terrorists and are bad people.
-Osagie E.

The debate was intense, but Hillary Clinton had more power than Donald Trump. Donald Trump wasn't prepared. He kept talking about his money. Also, he kept interrupting Hillary Clinton and the host. The reason I would vote for Hillary Clinton is because she is able to tell others what she thinks.

If could vote, I would vote for Hillary Clinton. This is because she wants to make the world a better place. I don't want to vote for Donald Trump because he only cares about first class people and leaves poor people to fend for themselves. Hillary will help everyone and keep the country safe.
-Mikayla Robinson

I think the first presidential debate was unfair because Trump kept cutting off Clinton when she was speaking. That shows that he was rude and disrespectful. I want to vote for Hillary because Trump acts inappropriately. He said that he wants to ban all Muslims from America. This shows that he is very racist.
-Victorya Fentress

On September 26th, 2016 the most important event on T.V. was the Presidential debate. Hillary Clinton vs. Donald Trump. Trump was disorganized and not prepared. Hillary had a plan and is ready for Presidency. Trump was sued for racism because he would not let African Americans in his hotel. Why would you vote for a racist, arrogant man. Also, Donald Trump supports "Stop and Frisk". This is when people are randomly searched by police for drugs or weapons. Luckily, Hillary did better in the debate. Would you really want Donald Trump in charge of the nuclear launch codes. I would vote for Hillary Clinton.
-Devon Reid

Market Day Preliminary Auditions

One of the biggest days of the summer at CYCSI is approaching. Market Day 2016 will surely be a spectacular one with tons of great performances. Every year prior to the actual event auditions are held to narrow down the amount of performances in the show. A panel of students and staff were selected to judge each audition and provide feedback or constructive criticism so they could work on it later. No one was eliminated during auditions this year.  As a result all staff and students were able to perform on Markey Day.

Game of Life Project by Shaneil Webley-Roberts

Media Club lesson today: "The Game of Life".  The objective of the "Game of Life" lesson was to allow the students to organize their plans for their future on a poster that has a design similar to the actual board game, "The Game of Life." On their posters they had to indicate the college they want to attend, their career choice, and any other life goals they had in mind (e.g. go on vacation to Hawaii, buy a car, family goals etc.). The students were able to express their creativity and also received a basic understanding of what careers they want to pursue in the future and how to achieve their career goals. Here are a few pictures of the students working on their projects:

After about a week of hard work on their projects, the students were able to complete their projects. The four projects below are the best projects that showed the most creativity and effort:

 Created by Adanna Iwu

 Created by Kal-el Douglas

Created by Faith Grinion

Game Day 2016 by Darrien Hunt and Faith Grinion, Art Work by Terryl Jackson and Allie Alexander

Today was the student favorite "Game Day," where each child enjoyed playing their favorite games. Every student was allowed to bring in their own video games, board games, or cards to play with their friends. We provided a PS4, Wii, and Xbox One for the children to play upon completing a Video Game review.

Students had fun playing games such as NBA 2K16, Wii Sports, Super Mario Bros, cards, dominoes, and other board games.

Here of some examples of some brief video game reviews done by students:

Just Dance 3 by Olivia Speller
Just Dance 3 was announced shortly after its prequel, Just Dance 2, was released. Ubisoft released this dancing craze on October 7th, 2011 in North America and October 11th in Europe and Australia.
The most challenging part of this game are the dances, but it’s enjoyable to play.

Fantasy Life by Faith Grinion
You, a normal citizen of Castele, Reveria, are faced with a dilemma that could change the world as we know it; the sky is breaking apart, causing 2 separate worlds to collide. It’s up to you, your friend Butterfly, a few allies, and your Life decisions to save Reveria. You can choose from 12 different Life classes, learning the ways of the sword, wand, pickaxe, frying pan, etc.
The most challenging part would have to be beating the final quest in all the Life classes.

Madden 16 by Tyler Smikle
You win the game! Get more points than the other team.
The hardest part of this game is to get more points than the other team.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii by John Fentress
This game is fun because it is about saving Princess Peach from Bowser. Everyone loves Mario. He has multiple items, including the ice flower, fire flower, star, red mushroom, mini mushroom, flying mushroom, 1-Up, and penguin.
The hardest part would be defeating Bowser when he is giant. He can spit larger fireballs and the lava under you is rising up.

NBA 2K17 by Gavin Johnston
NBA 2K17 is a fun game involving new and old basketball stars.  It allows people to battle head to head.
The most challenging part of the game is story mode.

Media Club Conducts Career Assessment Surveys By Darrien Hunt and John Fentress

This week the Media Club surveyed students to obtain stats on their favorite hobbies, subjects, and anticipated career goals. The students were able to gain communication skills and learned how to collect, analyze and compute data. By collecting this data the students were be able to create digital graphs using Microsoft Excel. The graph allows us to pinpoint the most popular and favored hobbies, subject and careers of our the students. Reviewing the students interests is a great way to assess them and help pinpoint possible career options.

John Fentress' Experience

I surveyed every student in each club to gather data on their favorite hobbies. To conduct our survey three students from Media Club were stationed at the front door of the classrooms to collect the information from the students. When the student came outside there were two students at the the desk and one student taking pictures. I enjoyed taking pictures. It was my favorite part of the experience.

Media Club 2 - Making Beats

Today in Media Club 2 the students made their own beat by using different platforms. In the previous class the students made their own song. Today they were able to provide a beat for their lyrics, express their creativity and gain skills in music production.

Here are two statements from the students in today's class...

"Today I made a beat on Incredibox. It was very fun." - Olanna Iwu

"Today we made beats on Beat Lab and Sampulator. I really enjoyed today's class." - Noel Boone
