Elijah McCoy:The African American Engineer by: Talise Peele

Elijah McCoy was born May 2, 1844 in Colchester, Ontario, Canada. Elijah McCoy was a 19th century African-American inventor. His parents, George and Mildred Goins McCoy, fled slavery.  When he was younger he showed a strong interest in mechanics; because of this, his parents arranged for him to study in Scotland. McCoy trained as an engineer  in Scotland. Sadly he died in Detroit, Michigan, on October 10, 1929. He inspired me because I want to become a Mechanical Engineer. Also he was one of a few African-American inventor of the 19th century.
